Wilderness Trip Registration
Young Adult Friend (aka YAF: what Quakers call those of us aged 18-35) Wilderness Trips are back!

These trips are designed to bring people together in the outdoors through creating a Quakerly space, filled with fun and joy. Trips are led by experienced backpackers who have previous experience leading groups. You can expect a welcoming community of fellow adventurers who wish to connect both lightheartedly and with depth.

Logistics:
Food and mileage reimbursement will be provided by the Pacific Yearly Meeting Youth Fund. Trips are split into front country trips, and backcountry trips. Front country will have campsite bathrooms and access to camp showers. Backcountry will not have any amenities, and leave no trace camping will be practiced. This year none of our trips are wheelchair accessible. If you are a veteran backpacker or completely new to camping we have a trip for you, and can help get you gear.

Trip Details
This year the only true frontcountry trip is:
Henry Coe State Park. The reservation for the drive-in campsite is set. There is an additional reservation for a group site that is a 2.75 mi hike away from the camp for Saturday night if Friends want to use that one as well. Elevation of the campsite is 2,660 ft. The highest point in the park is 3,500 ft. Vault toilets are in the campground, and solar showers will be made available by the trip leader, potable water is available at the campground. Families are welcome.

Humboldt Redwoods & Snow Mountain are backcountry trips. These will be remote wilderness experiences. Friends can expect to carry everything they need for the duration of the trip in their packs. Trip leaders will take group gear and everyone is expected to share carrying food (although not evenly as stronger hikers with bigger bags will take more). Mileage will vary depending on the group ranging from 2-10 miles per day. Children are not advised on this trip.

Grouse Ridge is a midcountry trip that is home to some truly spectacular sunsets. There is a vault toilet. There are day hikes of less than 1.5 miles that can lead to any of 5 different lakes, and possibly more depending on snow melt. We are aiming to get a campsite that is at the end of a bumpy road. There are no reservations and if sites are taken we will move to dispersed camping next to the lakes. The trip leader will be heading out early to make their best attempt at snagging a spot. Elevation ranges from 5,000-7,500 ft. Please notify youth@pacificyearlymeeting.org if you want to attend this event with children-- it is doable but requires additional planning.
