Each year The Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (CFSW) showcases some of the best spoken word performers from across Canada. Between 20–28 poetry slam collectives, from seven different Provinces, send teams of 4 or 5 poets to represent their communities at the Team Poetry Slam Event. In addition to the poetry slam component of the festival, CFSW’s core programming is the Main Stage Series, which brings diverse spoken word artists and storytellers to perform in marquee events at professional arts venues. There are also free events held at smaller venues, as part of the Collision Café Series, to bring spoken word into the community and create unexpected encounters with new audiences. The festival culminates at the closing gala event to audiences of between 300 and 500 people.
We are seeking expressions of interest from diverse poets, spoken word artists, storytellers and performance artists interested in performing as part of the Main Stage, Master Class, Discussion Panel and Collision Café Series.
Spoken Word Canada/CFSW follows the Canadian League of Poets guidelines for determining professional fees for performance and other artistic services. We are grant dependant and will program according to our funding as it becomes available.
