Self Help Graphics & Art Día de los Muertos Volunteer Form
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Self Help Graphics & Art's 44th Annual Día de los Muertos Season!

Every year, SHG hosts workshops and other events leading up to our main Dia de los Muertos Celebration on November 4th.  We would like to ask for your help in filling some of our volunteer needs for our Community Art Workshops and our Noche de Ofrenda, as well for the main Dia de los Muertos Celebration.

Please read the event descriptions and responsibilities for each volunteer opportunity and select the shifts you are most able and willing to work.  Then, tell us a little about yourself and how to contact you in the Information Section, and we'll get back to you with your shift and station closer to the event date.

Día de los Muertos Volunteer Opportunities
Community Art Workshops - FULL
Held every Saturday in October, the Community Art Workshops offer hands-on activities and instruction in flores de papel (paper flowers), papel picado, and mask making, as well as the life-size, papier mache Calaveras customary to our main Dia de los Muertos Celebration. The calaveras and other works created are always an indispensable part of our décor for the big celebration, and our artist instructors need assistance in order to make these workshops enjoyable for everyone involved.

Volunteer positions include set up, artist instructor assistance, and break down.

Noche de Ofrenda - FULL
Saturday, October 28, 2017
Grand Park (200 N. Grand Ave., Los Angeles, 90012)

SHG's Noche de Ofrenda will again be held in partnership with Grand Park on Saturday, October 28, 2017. Located between City Hall and The Music Center, Grand Park is at the heart of Downtown Los Angeles and offers their land for our offerings once a year on la Noche de Ofrenda. Participants are invited to place their newly created offerings or those brought from home together to create a community altar to display throughout our Dia de los Muertos festivities.

The tradition of making altars to honor our ancestors and passed loved ones serves as a way for the community to contribute their memories with special tokens of remembrance. Poetry readings, Pan de Muerto and Xocolatl will also be served as a part of this special evening.

Volunteer positions include general set up, break down, handling refreshments, help with Altars, and distribution of traditional Pan de Muerto to the public.

Over 7,000 guests enjoy a community gathering that celebrates community, life and death.

Volunteer positions will include general set up and break down, t-shirt/print/beverage sales, acting as ushers, donation hosts, greeters, managers, and entertainment wranglers, altar monitors, stage/performance liaison, Photobooth photographers/donation hosts, face painters, kids corner, Pan de Muerto sales, Vendor Load in and inspection, and volunteer check-in.
