RPS and VCU Dual Certification Application
Offered through Richmond Teaching Residency (RTR), this two-year program provides 15 RPS teachers with the opportunity to earn a Master’s in Reading with a concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, (TESOL) for an endorsement in TESOL and as a Reading Specialist.

This program is designed for the following:
-Licensed teachers who will teach full time in RPS beginning the 2019-2020 school year (newcomers are welcome)
-School support staff (Title I, Interventionists, etc... may be eligible to apply if they provide instruction to students at least 50% of the school day.
-Teachers who will commit to working in RPS as a TESOL teacher or Reading Lead for at least 3 years after degree completion.
-THE GRE and MAT will be waived for submission.

Applicants will submit the following items to the office of professional development by April 15th, 2019:
-2 letters of recommendation (1 must be from your current principal)
-A one page essay that details why you believe you are a candidate for this program and how you can impact student achievement with this additional knowledge and instructional capacity.
Ideal applicants will demonstrate standards of excellence in teaching via current practices and/or community volunteering.

Requirements for Cohort Participants:
-Upon selection participants are required to attend an orientation session in May 2019 prior to the start of the first class in Summer 2019.
-Sign a cohort agreement that details the financial commitment to selectees that break the contract
