BFC Application Form (2023)
Hi! Welcome to the 2023 application for the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective. We are a group of filmmakers who meet on a weekly basis to workshop each other's work.  We're glad you're interested!

The BFC is first and foremost a workshopping collective. During our fall and winter seasons, we meet weekly from 7-930pm to screen and give feedback on our members’ work. We encourage members’ to bring and present ideas, treatments, short scripts, string outs, selects, rough cuts, and beyond. Through meeting weekly, we strive to foster a safe and familiar environment where we can be vulnerable in the company of trusted colleagues. We deeply value our practice of critical feedback and constructive criticism.

We’re looking for filmmakers who are interested in community. The ideal candidate is an active creator who is motivated to support their peers through feedback. We welcome filmmakers at any stage in their career and prioritize storytelling, vision, and potential over production value and polish. We're also interested in filmmakers who understand the commitment of membership and can attend all meetings.

Our organization is volunteer run and can always benefit from individuals who are excited to donate their time to the self-governance and maintenance of the collective.

A couple things: For our last open call, we received over 100 applications and we were only able to accept 10. We expect similar numbers this time around, so make sure to show us your best work! And make sure to follow all of the directions. Please understand that although we may love your work, we are only able to offer slots to a handful of applicants every year.

Our mission is to be a supportive network of filmmakers and screenplay writers and we are actively seeking new members who can add unique perspectives and approaches to our existing community. We believe that diverse voices makes for stronger work, and we believe films should be made by people with different backgrounds and perspectives, too. The Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective welcomes women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ community and others who identify with underrepresented groups. We strive to have a diverse, comfortable creative environment for everyone!

Your application will be rated based on the following criteria:
1. Mastery of craft
2. Clarity of vision
3. Perspective and value added to the group

Also, please note that we are looking for committed members.

We meet for two 3-month sessions (fall/winter) each year, weekly in person, on Wednesdays, at DCTV in lower Manhattan and ask that members come to most meetings

If selected, there is a $75 per season membership fee, covering rent and other supplies. No applicants will be turned away for lack of funding. Waivers are available on a case by case basis.

Finally, please note we have a $10 application fee. We are diligent about watching everyone's submitted materials, so this is to cover administrative fees for our screening committee. If you would like to request a waiver, please send a note with your reason to info@brooklyn.film

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE June 30th, 2023 at 11:59 P.M.
Sorry, absolutely no exceptions will be made.

Good luck!
