Workday Magazine & Up With the Workers survey

Workday Minnesota, part of the Labor Education Service, has been going through a transition. The Workday team has decided to change our name to “Workday Magazine.” This shift reflects that we are expanding to cover labor in other states in the Midwest. More and more local media outlets have been covering unions and workers as the labor movement grows. Expanding our own coverage is how we seek to address a longtime lack of resources for investigative labor reporting in the broader Midwest.

We've hired a new content editor to lead Workday and another associate editor. We're building a small but mighty team of labor journalists! As we move through these changes, we'd love to hear your thoughts on coverage and content at Workday and Up With the Workers. We'd also love to get to know you and hear your concerns about the world we live in and the conditions you face every day. This form can be filled out anonymously, and you don't have to answer all the questions. There'll be an option to add your contact information at the end of this form and an option to let us know if you'd like us to follow up with you.

The mission of Workday Magazine is to hold the powerful to account while bringing the perspectives of everyday workers and the organizations that defend their rights to focus. Workday emphasizes long-form investigative journalism to bring to light the concealed and buried.

Workday fulfills the mission of the Labor Education Service at the University of Minnesota by providing a public outlet to examine the conditions that workers face on a day-to-day basis. Workday began publishing in the summer of 2000 with support from Minnesota’s labor community. It was the first online labor news publication in the United States.

Today, we continue to publish articles and other projects that dive into local, regional, and national topics. We operate a Substack newsletter, Up With the Workers, a curated and evolving collection of worker-related news, updates on worker organizing, and content from Workday.

Help us co-create the narrative by answering a few questions and letting us know what you’d like to see in our newsletter and on our website, who you think we should talk to, and anything else you'd like us to know!

Thank you for your time and efforts!
