Thank you for your interest in serving as a Jedi Mentor or Session Leader for the Chief Science Officers (CSOs) at Institute. Your volunteerism will help train a pipeline of diverse student STEM leaders to promote a culture of science, technology, engineering, and math among young people in Oregon.
Chief Science Officers are 6th through 12th grade students who are elected by their peers to serve as the voice for their schools in the community. These CSOs identify and organize STEM opportunities such as speakers, field trips, activities, and events for their peers. They serve as the point of contact for STEM-related organizations to meaningfully connect with their schools. You can find out more about the CSO Program through the national website here: www.chiefscienceofficers.org
To help them achieve their goals as STEM leaders, we will be training 27 CSOs in leadership, strategic planning, and communication skills at one of two training institutes in July and September. This year, Southern Oregon University will be hosting our Summer Leadership Institute on Tuesday, August 15 and Wednesday, August 16 for 27 middle and high school CSOs.
