This year’s theme is inspired by the work of the American Alliance of Museums’ Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI) Working Group. The working group published a report last year that provides five insights, each with a call to action, regarding the values of DEAI. The full DEAI Working Group report can be found here: https://www.aam-us.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/AAM-DEAI-Working-Group-Full-Report-2018.pdf. We invite session proposals that explore the many interrelated issues laid out therein.
While we will give preference to session and workshop proposals that relate to the theme, the Museums Alaska Program Committee will consider sessions on other topics relevant to the museum field. In light of the recent earthquake in Anchorage/Mat-Su area, we encourage and welcome a handful of proposals for sessions and workshops on disaster planning and response. Please fill out this online form by April 7th, 2019.
Note: The Program Committee reserves the right to organize and combine sessions in a manner to suit scheduling needs. We appreciate your understanding.
Considerations as you draft your proposal:
-Proposals must be clear, concise, and to the point.-What will attendees learn or accomplish during the session or workshop? Will there be any hands-on portion, or a handout?-Does your proposal relate to the theme?-Think creatively about your presentation format. What format is best for your content? How will you engage the audience in a dialogue?-Proposals should address the conference audience. Attendees will include museum staff, museum board members, museum volunteers, representatives from from various types of museums, and representatives from other types of organizations and companies. Attendees may also include historians, archivists, and librarians.
