Rachel Lears, consultant

With a professional background spanning academic, artistic and social justice work, she has consulted for both film projects and non-profits on topics ranging from story structure to audience engagement to fundraising. Rachel has over 10 years of experience successfully writing grants for social science research, documentary film and non-profits, with a focus on the intersection of social justice and the arts. Overall she has raised over $560k from 20 different grants including from the Ford Foundation, PBS and the American Council of Learned Societies. Her hybrid distribution/ audience engagement campaign for The Hand That Feeds has been featured as a case study by Sundance Institute, Chicken & Egg Pictures, Good Pitch, and IFP Labs. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from NYU and has been a Sundance Creative Producing fellow, a Creative Change fellow, and a two-time Fulbright fellow.
