STAGES THEATRE FESTIVAL
​STAGES aims to present accessible, innovative and entertaining shows at different stages of development from artists at different stages of their careers. We are looking for productions aimed at both mature and youth audiences, with a maximum running time of 75 minutes, short turnaround times and/or minimal set up and teardown. We will consider traditional theatre productions, but are particularly interested in non-traditional and innovative theatrical experiences. STAGES takes place the first full week of June every year.

EARLY STAGES
EARLY STAGES highlights the creative process behind new works with play readings and work-in-progress showings. Ideally, EARLY STAGES can support your already-funded in-development work by hosting your required public showing. EARLY STAGES takes place the week of Valentine's Day every year.

Preference will be given to shows that are created by Atlantic Canadian artists or tell Atlantic Canadian stories, but we welcome submissions from across Canada and the rest of the world. We are especially keen to support artists and stories from communities that are currently underrepresented in Canadian theatre (including but not limited to IBPOC and Deaf and disabled artists). If you are a member of an underrepresented community, we invite you to self-identify in your application.

A NOTE ON SUBMITTING SCRIPTS
STAGES and EARLY STAGES present work, we do not and can not produce your play. Even play readings and work-in-progress presentations must come with your own team. Our funding prevents us from producing the work in our festivals, we may only present the work of others. We do not facilitate your rehearsals, contract your artists, or fund your project. Instead we give a presentation fee for a showing of the work you have already produced (whether it is a play reading or full production). Our Artistic Director is more than happy to assist you in finding collaborators, but we cannot administrate your project for you. If you wish to submit a script for consideration to be produced by Eastern Front Theatre as part of our regular season, please note that EFT is mandated to produce work from artists who currently call Atlantic Canada home.

Desired Presentation Fee *
A presentation fee is something we can discuss and negotiate later, but it should be based on your production budget. 

Most commonly, EFT presentation fees cover the artist fees for all of the performances. Due to our own funding, we are strictly limited to presenting vs producing. This means that we can't pay to produce any part of your presentation (props, design, etc) but we can pay to mount something that already exists (artist fees, travel, etc). Essentially, you bring us a completed product, and we pay for whatever is needed to mount/remount it for our festival. On top of that, we provide a venue, tech, marketing and photos/footage of your work. A general rule is that a presentation fee would cover a third of your budget.

Budgets can be overwhelming and we can discuss and clarify the amount later-- this can be a ballpark number. If you have absolutely no idea what your presentation fee might be, you can check out the CTA's Minimum Fee Booklet: https://www.caea.com/Theatre/Agreements-Policies
