===== FELLOWSHIP VISION =====
We have 11 years to avert the climate crisis. Eleven years to prevent ecological catastrophe and human suffering on a massive scale. We have endured toxic air, dirty water and life-ending climate disaster for decades while fossil fuel CEOs reap the profits, and corrupt politicians turn a blind eye. The Green New Deal is the only plan to address the scope and scale of the crisis in the way that science and justice demand. Sunrise is building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influences of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people. Apply for the 2019 Sunrise Summer and Fall fellowship to join us in making the Green New Deal a reality across the country.
Since Sunrise launched two years ago, we built the scaffolding for a movement prepared to make the Green New Deal a reality in this country. Alongside Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, we put the urgency of the climate crisis and the Green New Deal on the map. In just the past few months, Sunrise and partner organizations have elevated the Green New Deal from an unknown, fringe proposal, to a national litmus test for the moral clarity and political courage of presidential hopefuls. And over the past few months, the movement has exploded. Thousands of young people (150 active hubs and 100,000 new people on the mailing list in the first two weeks of February alone) feel hope in the Green New Deal for the first time in their lives.
We did this by mobilizing an army of young people. In the summer of 2018, Sunrise Movement launched Sunrise Semester, investing in 75 full-time youth organizers across 5 key states to build their power and mobilize their communities. Sunrisers put in the work to hold fossil fuel executives and corrupt politicians accountable, and to elect peoples’ champions who are committed to fighting for our generation. In the 2018 midterm elections, Sunrise helped elect 19 out of 30 endorsed peoples’ champions while uniting our communities and giving young people across the country a channel for the anger we feel at the failure of our leaders, and the hope we see for our future. We are building off this success to launch the 2019 Fellowship, and will build our capacity to support the volunteers who are the life force of this movement.
We need a committed group of diverse young leaders to go all in and help our movement advance the campaign for a Green New Deal and prepare for Sunrise Semester 2020. Join us!

===== FELLOWSHIP COSTS =====
We work to make Sunrise fellowships as accessible as possible to those most directly impacted by injustice, including those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. With this in mind, this the financial support structure for the fellowship:
Fellows living in movement houses will be supported by the program through in-kind compensation of housing, utilities, and food. Fellows will also receive direct compensation for transportation, a living stipend, and financial aid. The actual cost of the fellowship is approximately $1450 per fellow for month, so expenses are about $8,700 per fellow for six months. The budget breaks down monthly to: housing and utilities $450, food $150, campaign materials $100, program coordination $125, transportation $200, personal stipend $225 with additional equity budget.
Fellows in the remote hub coordinator's fellowship will be supported by the program through direct compensation to cover food, transportation, a living stipend, and financial aid. The program will support fellows in the remote hub coordinator's fellowship to find "supporter housing" (free housing with a supporter of the movement), and may, in some cases, stipend people to help cover their rent.
We anticipate that most individuals and organizations will not be able to pay the full cost amount, and are committed to providing stipends to the majority of participants. If you have resources to cover the full cost or more, that helps us keep it accessible for other participants. Your ability to pay the cost will NOT be a barrier to participation in the program. There will be room down below to indicate in detail your financial situation.
