When the Clergy Went Underground: A Dramatic Reading of the play by Carol Kammen
FREE, RSVP required by March 15.
Tuesday, March 17 2026 at 7pm
Temple Beth-El, 402 N. Tioga St. (corner of Court St and North Tioga St)
Ithaca, NY

Based on recordings by Reverend David Evans, former minister of the First Baptist Church in Ithaca, and a speech by Reverend Richard Gilbert, former minister of the Unitarian Society of Ithaca, When the Clergy Went Underground recounts their experiences in the 1960s as members of the Upstate New York Clergy Consultation Service. This interfaith group—including local rabbis—helped women access safe abortions in the years before Roe v. Wade.

The program will be performed by David Dietrich, Sue Perlgut, Michael Schaff, Linda Hoffmann, Mike Hoffmann, author Carol Kammen, and Caroline Cox.

All are welcome. Please RSVP below.
