Statement of Conduct

  All participants in the excavation are expected to uphold the following standards:  

  1. Respectful and Appropriate Conduct
    Participants must behave respectfully toward all team members, participiants, and local communities. Discrimination, harassment, and any form of abusive or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.
  2. Workplace Responsibility
    Participants must follow all excavation procedures and safety guidelines as directed by the staff. Tasks should be performed responsibly, both in the field and during post-excavation activities.
  3. Living Environment and Community Standards
    Participants are expected to respect communal accommodations and facilities, keep a clean environment, and contribute to a positive and cooperative atmosphere.
  4. Confidentiality of Unpublished Data
    Any findings, data, or photographs collected during the excavation remain the intellectual property of the expedition. Participants may not publish, post, or share this material without prior permission from the excavation directors.
  5. Consent for Photography
    By joining this excavation, the participant consents to being photographed by the expedition for scientific and promotional purposes. A participant who does not wish to be photographed should inform the excavation team in advance.
  6. Dismissal Policy
    The excavation directors exercise the right to dismiss participants from the excavation for breaching the expedition's rules of conduct or for any other reason deemed justified by the directors.  If a participant is dismissed from the excavation for reasons noted above, the balance of their room and board will not be reimbursed.

The excavation season will last for three weeks, between January  18 to February 5, 2026. The minimum required participation period is two excavation weeks. Excavation weeks begin Sunday morning and end on Thursday afternoon.

Over the weekends (Thursday afternoon - Sunday morning), no excavation activities take place, and volunteers are free to travel to other destinations. Expedition accommodations will not be available during this time (see Accommodation and Pricing section below). Volunteers are responsible for arranging their own weekend travel to and from En-Gedi using regular intercity bus lines connecting En-Gedi with other destinations (Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Arad, Eilat). Those who wish may also arrive at En-Gedi by car, using car rental services available in Jerusalem and other cities in Israel (Please note the limited availability of gas stations near En-Gedi).

Accommodation and Pricing

Participants in the expedition will stay at Badolina Ein Gedi Glamping resort, located within Kibbutz En-Gedi, a short distance from the excavation site.

During excavation days, participants will receive on-site meals during working hours and a hot dinner in the evening. All meals are provided by the expedition (cost included).

Accommodation options at Badolina Ein Gedi Glamping include the following:


1. Cabin
Double wooden cabins. Each cabin includes a double bed with bedding, lighting, power outlets, air conditioning, and a small outdoor balcony. Single or double occupancy is available.
For double occupancy, participants should clearly indicate the name of the person they wish to share the cabin with in the relevant section below. The selected roommate must also be registered for the excavation. 

Fee:
500$ for an one person per excavation week (4 nights, Sunday–Thursday)
800$ for two persons per excavation week (4 nights, Sunday–Thursday)

2. Bell Tent
Spacious canvas tents equipped with up to eight comfortable mattresses, air conditioning, lighting, and power outlets for charging personal devices.
Sleeping arrangements are shared with other participants based on gender and availability.

Fee:
350$ per excavation week (4 nights, Sunday–Thursday)

3. Camping (Bring Your Own Tent)
Participants may bring and pitch their own tents and enjoy full access to the site’s facilities, including shared power outlets, showers, and more.

Fee: 200$ per excavation week (4 nights, Sunday–Thursday)

All accommodation options at Badolina share common bathroom and shower facilities, which are cleaned daily by the site staff and offer hot water throughout the day.

Volunteers who wish to arrange their own accommodation during thir stay at the excavation are welcome to do so and should notify the excavation team accordingly (select the relevant option below).
Those who select this option will be asked to pay a weekly fee of 100$ for covering meals and excavation-related activities.
Participants who wish for an upscale accomodation may independently reserve rooms at the Ein Gedi Hotel, or at other accommodation options of their choice.

Please note: transportation to and from the site during excavation days will not be provided from locations beyond the immediate area of Kibbutz Ein Gedi; in such cases, participants are responsible for arranging their own travel.

The excavation directors are not affiliated with the Ein Gedi Hotel or any other accommodation providers. All communication with these facilities, including payment, will be arranged independently by the participant.

Accommodation arrangements are subject to change and depend on the number of participants, logistical considerations, and scheduling or site access limitations. The ability to carry out the excavation may be affected by natural causes or security-related circumstances beyond the control of the expedition. In the event of any significant changes, participants will be informed as early as possible and may choose either to participate under the revised conditions or receive a full refund.

In order to complete the application process and secure your participation, a deposit of 150$ is required. The deposit will be paid online via a secure link, which will be sent to the applicant by email within a few days after the form is submittedThe deposit is non-refundable, and will be deducted from the total participation fee.
The remaining balance for the selected accommodation plan will be paid one month before the start of the excavation season via an additional payment link that will be sent close to that time.
