Welcome! I’m excited to have you in my class. The primary objective of the course is to provide you with a fundamental understanding of modern biology and scientific processes. Biology is the study of living organisms, their origins, how they survive, reproduce, change over time, and interact with each other and their environments. LIFE!

This is an End of Course (EOC) class and required for graduation. Students are ultimately responsible for their success; therefore, you should be organized, prepared, and motivated to to LEARN . #learnerforlife

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Science department expectations for academic integrity will follow EPISD policy as stated in EIA Local policy manual.

A student who receives a failing grade (CH) due to academic dishonesty shall NOT be allowed to redo assignments or retake a test. At the discretion of the teacher, a discipline referral may be issued.

Actions constituting academic dishonesty include, but are not limited to; SUBMITTING OTHERS WORK AS YOUR OWN, COPYING WORK FROM ANOTHER STUDENT, PLAGIARISM, CHEATING, FABRICATION, INAPPROPRIATE USE OF TECHNOLOGY, FALSIFYING DOCUMENTS, AND ALLOWING OTHERS TO VIOLATE THE ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY. Students have the responsibility to submit coursework that is the result of their own thought, research, or self-expression.

GRADING POLICY
You have two opportunities to redo grades below 70%. After each attempt you have five school days (from grade being posted) to redo the test or assignment. The average of all attempts is what gets recorded.

If you do not turn in the assignemnt you will automatically receive a zero. Then you have five days to turn in your work and the above policy will be followed.

Course work will carry the following weights:
40% Mastery Exams *certain Labs
40% Understanding. Labs, Projects and Presentations
20% Engagement Classwork and Discussions

I UNDERSTAND THE GRADING POLICY *
MAKEUP WORK
IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO CONTACT THE TEACHER THROUGH E-MAIL OR IN PERSON FOR ANY MAKE-UP WORK. If you are absent, refer to the course website and your peers to complete assignments.

Students have one day for each absence to complete make-up work. Make-up exams must be done during teacher designated hours only.

ELECTRONICS
Cell phones and other electronic devicecs are prohibited. You must follow Student Handbook guidelines for cell phones and electronic devices. If an electronic device is confiscated it will be turned in to the business office.

HALL PASS
In order to use hall pass student must have their school ID card. No student should be out of class for more than 5 minutes.
TUTORING
Tutoring will be held in the morning before school on Wednesday and Thursday. Alternative tutoring days can be arranged with advance notice. Just come talk to me!
School and district policy is to be followed at all times. This policy can be found in the student handbook and agenda.
STUDENT: I agree to organize my time and effort to successfully complete the above named course. I will notify the teacher immediately if I fall behind in class assignments and/or require additional time/assistance to be successful in my Science course.

PARENT/GUARDIAN: I agree to make myself familiar with the above course requirements and to help my daughter/son organize study time in support of the class assignments. I will notify the teacher of any concerns I may have relating to the course or my child’s progress.

TEACHER: I agree to maintain the standards of the course described above. Students and parents will be notified at regular intervals (with three week interval progress reports and nine weeks report cards) regarding student progress. If assigned work and/or assignments are unsatisfactory, campus policy regarding notification to parents/guardians will be implemented as needed.
