2020 Deer Habitat Series Registration
This series is presented by the Michigan Wildlife Cooperatives Program to highlight properties that show successful and unique habitat investments. To register, please complete this form. April 11, 2020 - Keno, MI 12pm to 3pm
During the tour, you will get to see how this 70-acre property was transformed, where mistakes were made, live demonstrations, property layout and how it has changed, the use of water holes, hunting strategy and more. Dr. Jim Brauker will be joining us on the tour to give live feedback, chainsaw demonstrations and a presentation.
Live Demonstrations of the following: Hinge cutting with and without tools, tree planting from bare root and plugs, last-minute apple tree pruning, frost seeding and mock scrape setup.
April 18, 2020 - Coopersville, MI 1pm to 4:30pm
***We know this is opening day of turkey season. To combat this, the event will not start until after 12 pm to accommodate participants that will hunt in the morning.
The following topics will be covered: Timber harvests, hinge cuts, deer trail blocks and steering, entry and exit strategies, sanctuary bedding areas, prescribed fire (demonstration weather dependent), river bottoms, topography, open farm ground, conifer plantings for thermal cover, soft edge tree plantings, switchgrass plantings, screens and bedding cover, rotational Food plots, tree and food plot protection fencing, licking branch setups, and horizontal rub setups.
April 25, 2020 - Curran, MI 10am to 2pm
The following topics will be covered: Timber cutting methods, regeneration of cuttings, food plots (and reduction of), spruce budworm and oak wilt, on-site 10-acre lake project, state forestry program and stand access strategies.
