Harvard Foundation Application 2018
There has never been a more exciting time to be an intern at the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations. The Foundation was started in 1981 by the president and deans of the College with the aim to "improve relations among racial and ethnic groups within the University and to enhance the quality of our common life."

This mission has come alive in events of all types:

- Student-led initiatives: Interns at the Harvard Foundation produce programming each semester ranging from panel discussions on interracial dating and socioeconomic status to large events like Diversitas 2011, a celebration of culture at Harvard.

- Cultural Rhythms : An annual celebration of diversity at Harvard that has traditionally featured over 30 student groups and over 1000 student attendees. Past Artist of the Year honorees have included Solange, Viola Davis, Lucy Liu, John Legend, Shakira, Will Smith, Jackie Chan, and many more.

- Portraiture Project : The Foundation seeks to increase the number of portraits of minority distinguished alumni. Prominent figures to join the collection include U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios, the first black Harvard graduate Richard Theodore Greener (A.B. 1870), Archie Epps III, and many more.

- Science Conference : An annual conference hosted to encourage women and minorities in STEM geared towards K-12 students in the greater Boston area.

- And many more : The Harvard Foundation hosts a number of other dinners, ceremonies, and events including honoring a Humanitarian of the Year, hosting an Artist in Residence, funding over $50,000 in student organization grants, overseeing the Race Relations Advisor Program, and coordinating a Writing and Film Series. In the past, guests of the Harvard Foundation have included Secretaries-General of the United Nations, Heads of State, Nobel Laureates, and other world renown artists and leaders.

Interns are actively engaged throughout the Foundation’s event-planning process, from helping to compose invitations to speakers to publicity design and event logistics. Student interns also serve as liaisons between the Foundation and the over 80 cultural organizations on campus.

The Harvard Foundation emphasizes the importance of personal growth through the internship. Because of our commitment to mentorship and long-term development, only freshmen and sophomores are eligible to apply . Once hired, interns are expected to commit to the position for the remainder of their time at Harvard.
