This third survey (in the series of UFS Application Surveys) delves deeper into the metrics deemed to be most critical according to the responses of our prior survey. In this survey, we will be asking you about specific metrics for the fields and levels you have identified in previous surveys. We will also ask about recommended regions over which the metrics should be verified and the sources of validation (i.e. "truth") for each field. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐭.
TRACK ERRORS were addressed in SURVEY 2 and identified as Cross-Track and Along Track Errors. In the first two rounds of surveys, additional fields were ranked by the participants as most critical fields for hurricane forecasting as follows:
PRESSURE LEVEL FIELDS:
Heights at 850 and 500 hPa
Temperature at 850 hPa
Maximum U/V Wind and Speeds at Surface* and 850 hPa
MSLP*
*Identified as most critical TC Intensity fields
TROPICAL CYCLONE CHARACTERISTICS:
Intense Precipitation (QPF)
Inundation Depth
Genesis Parameters
