Asian American Youth Voices Rising!              Fall 2023 Application

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: An 8-week leadership academy for Asian American youth, grades 6th - 8th grade, to learn about selected aspects of Asian American history through award-winning graphic texts. Learn about Chinese, South Asian, Korean, and Vietnamese American histories and create a digital multimodal video using animation, sound, text and photos! Hosted by the Asian American Resource Center with support from the Center for Asian American Studies and Asian Texans for Justice. Participants who complete 7 out of 8 sessions will receive a set of four graphic novels and a certificate of completion  from the University of Texas at Austin's Center for Asian American Studies. Snacks provided.

GRADE: 6th - 8th (as of October 2023)

DATES/TIMES: 8 Saturdays (October 14, 21, 28, November 4, 11, 18, and December 2 and 9), from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM

DEADLINE: October 02, 2023 or until all spots filled. Space is limited. Families will be notified of acceptance starting in Late September 2023.

COST: Onetime Fee - $5 for City of Austin Resident/ $10 for Non Resident. Instructions for payment will be sent to confirmed attendees in acceptance email. 

INSTRUCTIONS: Please have both you (parent/guardian) and your student fill out the below application. Once accepted, AARC staff will confirm acceptance and provide instructions for the first day of class. Official registration and registration fee via WebTrac, as well as program participant waivers must be completed before the first class, on October 14th. Details will be provided in the acceptance email.
