Woodside Beasts Athlete Registration

We’re excited you are ready to join the Beasts!

The Woodside Beasts is open to students in 6-12th grade.

We ride year-round operating as an insured USA Cycling Club. Between Dec 1 and the end of May the Beasts practice and compete in cross country races in the NorCal League operating under the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). During the NorCal season all student athletes must be registered with NICA and pay the NICA fees.

Our team is made of volunteer coaches and parents who bring their love of riding to all student-athletes. Our vision is for athletes to build a community together, to improve as bike riders, learn to support each other, discover that if they work hard the results will come, make friends from other teams, grow as individuals and gain self-confidence.

We have a large group of girls who have their own weekly ride in addition to our regular weekly team rides. We have recently started a middle school only ride.

Parents are strongly encouraged to participate both on and off the bike!

To start the process, complete this form.

This form collects information required to create an account on the NICA PitZone portal as well as for our Spond app where we communicate and where you register for events. On completion of this form, you will get a link to a waiver. You will also be sent an email with the same link to the waiver and a PayPal invoice for paying the team fees ($280), waived if joining after May 31 till Oct 15).

When these have been completed you will receive separate email invitations:

1. One is to register in with Spond, the app we use to announce events and communicate.

2. If we are in the NICA season (Dec 1 to end of May) you will also receive an invitation from NICA to register in NICA’s PitZone and pay the NICA and NorCal League fee (total $110).  It is mandatory to be registered in PitZone during the NICA season. PitZone is also where you will register for races.

If you register an interest to ride with the team as a parent (this is an option in the form) you will be registered with NICA as a coach (this is required for insurance reasons). There will be a $30 fee and NICA requires an annual background check which costs $38 for the first year. All parents riding with the team must be certified as a Level 1 coach. This is fairly basic, covering the NICA philosophy and basic safety; it doesn’t require any specific riding expertise. Being a NICA coach brings discounts on brand cycling equipment. Other perks include being allowed to pre-ride NICA racecourses with your student athlete, bringing families closer together in a super fun environment.
