2026 Troop 126G Interest Survey

Troop 126 is an all female ScoutsBSA troop based at Gale Ranch Middle School.  We were founded in February 2019 and are chartered (sponsored) by the Kiwanis of San Ramon Valley. We actively encourage the scouts to take on responsibilities throughout their scouting journey.   The Troop prides itself on having a diverse youth planned and executed program which includes hiking, camping and service projects.  In 2021 and 2024 we went to Philmont High Adventure base and are headed to Florida Sea Base in 2026. We attended Scout Summer camp in 2019 & 2021-2025 and plan to do so in 2026. Scouts advance at their own pace supported and mentored by the older scouts and uniformed leaders.

We strive to create a successful troop for the scouts as well as for the scout and adult leadership.  To reach this goal, it is in the best interest to create a culture to properly support them.  For that reason, we manage the number of scouts added each year to maintain a planned growth strategy by adding two patrols each year.  The bridging scouts will work with Troop Guides and senior scouts through Patrol Method to learn, grow, and advance in Scouting.

Cost & Commitments if Invited to Join Troop 126

If your scout is already registered with ScoutsBSA for the 2026 year (ie is an AOL in good standing), the cost to join the troop, if invited to do so, is $200 (troop dues).  If you are new to scouting, the cost to join, if invited to do so, is $355 which reflects the sum of the troop dues and Scouting's national and council fees ($148).  These fees may change should there be a price increase by the Council before March 2026.

There is a separate $300 volunteer deposit which will be returned upon the completion of 8 (prorated from 12) hours of qualified volunteer time.  A scout's parent or guardian will be asked to take on a position in the troop.

Each scout's family is required to drive a carpool at least twice. 

Each scout's parent or guardian will be asked to complete Youth Protection Training and AB-506 Mandated Reported Training if their scout is invited to join the troop.

While the troop is scout-led, a critical aspect of support for our youth is having strong parental involvement. We expect active parent and family participation.  Typical roles needed are: merit badge counselors, board of review members, transportation of scouts and equipment, Court of Honor hospitality, committee and uniformed adult leadership.  For those parents interested in directly working with the scouts on outings/campouts, you may apply for an Assistant Scoutmaster ("ASM") position.  While preferred, you need not be a Den Leader or Cubmaster to apply for an ASM position.  The Troop prepares and supports ASMs with leadership, youth and outdoor training such as IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills).

We have a limited amount of openings for scouts in the 2026 year and priority will be given to bridging Arrow of Light Scouts.  As such, not all applicants may be accommodated.  We encourage you to pursue your love of Scouting either with Troop 126 or another troop in the area, such as Troop 2021G  (San Ramon) and 36G (Danville).
