WFS 2020 Conference Call for Presentations
Women for Sobriety, Inc., is calling for workshop presenters for our 2020 Annual Weekend Conference. The conference will be held at the Hamline University campus in St. Paul, MN from June 12 - 14, 2020.
Conference Goal: Our attendees will increase their knowledge of the New Life Program and recovery skills consistent with the New Life philosophy, develop peer connections with other women participating in the New Life Program, and replenish emotional and spiritual energy for their recovery journeys.
Conference Theme: This year’s theme is Envision It! This relates to WFS Level of Recovery 6: Recognizing life’s priorities: emotional and spiritual growth, self-responsibility. This level includes Acceptance Statements 8 and 13. (#8. The fundamental object of life is emotional and spiritual growth. Daily I put my life into a proper order, knowing which are the priorities. # 13. I am responsible for myself and for my actions. I am in charge of my mind, my thoughts, and my life.)
Expected Audience: Women who participate in the Women for Sobriety New Life Program online, at in-person meetings, or individually. All women who use the New Life Program are welcome; presenters must respect all expressions of female identity.
Types of Workshops: Breakout sessions are 90 minutes in duration and typically have 20-50 participants depending on interest, space availability, and group size limitation requests received from facilitators. Topics related to emotional and spiritual growth, the WFS Statements or Levels of Growth, recovery from Substance Use Disorders, and self-care (including relaxation and recreational skills) are most requested by attendees. Interactive elements such as partner or small group work, written exercises, creative activities, etc., are preferred.
Desired Presenters: We are seeking female facilitators who can increase recovering women’s sense of empowerment in their lives and their recoveries. We highly encourage all women using the New Life Program to consider developing a workshop and are happy to assist with this process as needed. Engaging and interactive facilitation style preferred; relevant self-disclosure welcome. Familiarity with the principles of the New Life Program is required, as our approach is somewhat unique within the substance use disorder recovery field. Be willing to meet all deadlines and use high quality audio/visual and handout materials.
Benefits to Presenters: New Life Program participants and other women in recovery will be eligible to have their Base Registration Fee for the conference weekend waived (add-ons such as Thursday night, single rooms, and extra activities not included). Professionals who are not WFS participants will gain valuable presentation experience and professional exposure, will be provided with a complimentary meal with conference attendees before and/or after their workshop(s), and may be eligible for a modest monetary stipend to help cover expenses.
