The ACE Counselor position is responsible for assisting the coordinators in planning and running Active Community Engagement (ACE FPOP) during August 2021. This is a student leadership position that allows upperclassmen to form a connection with the incoming class of MIT first-years through the exploration of social justice and service opportunities in the Boston and Cambridge area. This is a volunteer student leadership position. This position provides a potential pipeline to ACE paid student leadership positions through the ACE student Coordinator role.
Counselors facilitate a fun, intentional, public service focused program for incoming first-year students. They introduce students to MIT and the local community, as well as important social justice issues that play out in our community. Counselors are expected to be present throughout the entire program as well as a series of training sessions during the spring semester and prior to the FPOP week. In addition, counselors will be required to spend about 1-2 hours per week during the spring semester working with the coordinators and MIT PKG Center Staff to plan the program. Tasks during the spring will include determining the program budget and evening activities, as well as finding appropriate service placements and revising existing educational programming. Specific responsibilities during FPOP week will include facilitating activities, setting up service placements and coordinating on logistics, leading discussions, and serving as a resource to the first-years.
