The Overfishing of Sharks
Hi, my name is Jordyn Cleeland and I am an eighth grader. Eighth graders are tasked with a year long project called capstone. My capstone is about the overfishing of sharks. I am having a summit about the overfishing of sharks on April 7th at 4:00pm to 5:00pm! I am hoping to have a couple of guest speakers come and talk about it. I will also be giving a presentation!
In 2018 100 million sharks were killed, but in that same year there were only 66 shark bites and out of those there were 4 fatalities.
There was a study done that analyzed movies that had sharks in them from 1958-2019. In total there were 109 movies and 96% of those movies portrayed sharks as harmful to humans.
Sharks are incredibly important to our marine ecosystems. Sharks are apex predators and apex predators keep stability in our marine ecosystems.
