CU Museum of Natural History presents "Fossils in the Classroom" an interactive training session for teachers via Zoom
Two sessions, choose from: Monday May 17th, or Tuesday May 18th from 3:45 to 4:45 pm

Join CU Museum's Senior Educator Jim Hakala for an online, interactive training session that explores the Fossils in the Classroom kit through images, videos and live demonstrations. Each session will cover an overview of the fossils, lessons and support materials, ways to use the materials in your classroom, and additional resources available.

The Fossils in the Classroom project was developed to meet Colorado science standards and to connect the work of CU Faculty researchers with teachers and students in communities throughout Colorado that need resources and expertise on fossils for the classroom. Investigations in the kits have students observing, using measuring tools, predicting, recording, describing, and comparing observations and results from their work to that of the work of other students and to the work of paleontologists. Topics in the kits include fossilization, geologic time, paleo-environments, climate change, marine environments, and fossil track ways.

About the presenter: Jim Hakala, Senior Educator, University of Colorado Museum of Natural History has been with the museum for more than 20 years and specializes in interpretation, museum education, and program development. Jim manages the project and has produced and delivered more than 700 Fossils in the Classroom kits for teachers and students around the state. This project is generously supported by the CU-Boulder Office of Outreach and Engagement and the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History.

For the health and well-being of our community, and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, all programs at the CU Museum in Spring 2021 will be presented via ZOOM. Register below and a Zoom link will be sent to participants prior to the session.
