Students are registered for classes every spring by the counseling staff, based on a teacher recommendation for each course and student elective registration in Infinite Campus. Students have two weeks from the date of enrollment in a course to request a schedule change. Requests made after two weeks will be denied. During the work week, counselors strive to process schedule changes within 48 hours. Students will only be eligible for a schedule change based on the criteria below:
1. Incomplete Schedule: Student has less than 6 course credits in schedule. 2. Additional Course: Student has more than 6 course credits in schedule. 3. A senior who needs to make a change to fulfill a graduation requirement. 4. A student is enrolled in a course and has not passed the required pre-requisite. 5. The student is enrolled in a course for which credit has already been earned.6. Course Level Change – Refer to Honors/AP Policy below. 7. Elective Change – Refer to Elective Policy below.
Upon counselor review, schedule changes will appear in OHS or students will receive a denial notice via kmail. Changes are made in compliance with GCA school policies below.
GCA Honors/AP PolicyGCA’s Honors and Advanced Placement curriculum offers a challenging program for all students. Recent studies have shown that the rigor of a student's high school curriculum is the single best predictor of success in college. In order to gain the proper benefits of an Honors or AP curriculum, a full yearlong commitment to Honors and AP course(s) are required. Students have two weeks from the date of enrollment in a course to request withdrawal from the course. After the two week period, students may not withdraw from an Honors or AP course. In rare and extenuating circumstances, where conditions are beyond the student’s control, requests for withdrawal may possibly be approved with administrative authorization from the GCA Director of Guidance & Counseling. Requests for withdrawal from an Honors or AP course must be submitted in writing to the assigned counselor and may only be granted for the following reasons: 1. Severe health conditions that affect the student’s ability to satisfactory complete the course. 2. The death of a family member that has significantly impacted a student’s ability to satisfactory complete the course. 3. A natural disaster or similar events that have significantly impacted a student’s ability to satisfactory complete the course. 4. Other good cause as determined by the Director of Guidance and Counseling
GCA Electives Request PolicyAll elective choices were made available through the 2016-2017 Infinite Campus Elective Course Registration window. A kmail/call/email to counselor was not accepted in lieu of this process. If a student accurately completed the 2016-2017 Infinite Campus Elective Course Registration and did not receive one of the selected course requests, then the student may be eligible for a schedule change.
