CIRCULAR BIOCARBON Webinar series | #3  Transforming biowaste into bio-based materials: unlocking opportunities for local bioeconomies

In Europe, cities generate around 90 million tonnes of bio-waste every year. More than half of that still ends up in the mixed waste that is landfilled or incinerated.

The CIRCULAR BIOCARBON project presents a first-of-a-kind flagship biorefinery that offers the opportunity to turn the organic waste generated in a city into new resources and end products. As part of the project, a webinar series is organized through the project's City Interest Group, led by project partner ICLEI Europe - Local Governments for Sustainability.

WEBINAR #2:  Transforming biowaste into bio-based materials: unlocking opportunities for local bioeconomies

The third webinar will explore the potential of transforming biowaste into valuable bio-based materials, moving beyond more mainstream energy applications, and with a particular focus on urban and regional bioeconomies. The webinar will begin by setting the stage with an overview of urban bio-based economies, providing context for the discussion. Following that, it will delve into the latest advancements in biowaste valorisation, highlighting the crucial role of bio-based materials.

The webinar will also present local economic development policies, such as bioeconomy clusters and industrial symbiosis, that create a supportive environment for the development and uptake of bio-based materials. The event will conclude with testimonials and best practices from local authorities, offering practical insights for participants. There will be ample time for a Q&A session, allowing participants to share their experiences and engage in the conversation.
