CS178 Spring 2014 Survey
Welcome to CS178. This survey will help us assign you to sections and assign you a camera if you need one.

Please read the following instructions before filling up the survey:

1. We want to make sure we have the correct information for everyone who is *actually* enrolled and planning to take the course. You should only take this survey if you're *definitely* taking the course for credit (i.e. you have signed up for the course on Axess).
2. The deadline for filling out this survey is Wednesday April 2, 10:00 pm. There's no advantage to filling out the survey early, so if you're not sure if you're taking the course for credit yet, hold off until Tuesday.
3. Section assignment - you *must* indicate three different choices. Choosing the same section does not increase your chances to actually being assigned to that section (we simply consider it as one request).

Any questions about the survey should be sent to the TAs at cs178-spr1314-staff@lists.stanford.edu.

Section Assignments
For this course you'll be placed in a section, which you must attend every week. Unfortunately, if you can't attend section, then you can't do the course. What section times work for you? We'll collect everyone's preferences and run an algorithm that tries its best to please everyone. Sorry in advance if we can't assign you to your preferred time.

Borrowing a Camera
We need to know if you need to borrow a camera for the course. You'll need a camera with manual control over shutter speed and aperture.  We have about 45 cameras total that we can loan.
Note: If you say you can't take the course unless we lend you a camera (either of the latter two options), and we don't have enough cameras, you will not be able to complete the assignments unless you have a fallback plan (e.g. you're willing to buy a camera or borrow one).  One type of camera we have is the Olympus PEN E-P3; we also have two types of DSLRs --the Nikon D40 and Nikon D3000.  All of them are excellent cameras. Go ahead and look them up on Google. If you've rarely or never used a camera before you'll probably be more comfortable with the Olympus PEN E-P3. If you're feeling more adventurous and think you would benefit from using a digital SLR, you may want to try a Nikon. If more than 45 people cannot take the course without borrowing a camera, we will assign cameras based on some combination of proximity to graduation and other variables.

Photoshop
We will have free, temporary licenses for Photoshop CC for every student enrolled in the course. You'll need a laptop for this course, which you will bring to section to work on your photos. To make sure we assign you the correct license, tell us what operating system you run on your laptop.
If your laptop is a little old, you may wish to check the Photoshop CC system requirements: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/tech-specs.html. You don't have to use Photoshop for the class. If you're more comfortable with some other photo editing software, that's fine too.
