Black Girl In Om is seeking a dynamic and enterprising Editorial Intern to support our Editor-In-Chief with tasks related to the BGIO publication “Om” including managing incoming content, responding to initial inquires, developing robust pitches for contributors, and helping to decide which content will fit our holistic wellness and self-care centered lifestyle brand.
Time commitment:10 hours per week, fairly flexible and spread out over 5 days. Schedule is negotiable and workload is dependent on the amount of content that we are receiving. This internship will begin February 13, 2017 and end May 12, 2017.
Compensation: This internship is unpaid. Interns may be eligible for college credits if participating via a college program or class. Please speak with your advisors and professor if that is your intention and let us know if you plan to seek course credit when and if you receive an interview with us. College students are strongly encouraged to apply!
RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
Responding to all publication related email inquiries
Accepting, rejecting and suggesting pitch ideas
Organizing and gathering contributor documents
Helping Editor In Chief reach out to potential contributors
Assessing contributor writing quality and suitability for
www.blackgirlinom.comUploading content to Squarespace site
Qualifications:
Must have excellent writing skills
Must have excellent attention to details
Must have a computer or consistent access to a computer and internet access
Must have experience with Google Drive, Google Doc and Google Sheets
Must be organized and have strong multi-tasking skills
Must have excellent time-management skills – you will work independently often
Must have time work skills
Must be a self starter that is open to changing systems and sharing ideas on how to make current systems better and more effective
Must be extremely organized
Must be passionate about, and familiar with, the Black Girl In Om mission
Must be able to connect weekly in hour-long meeting with Editor-in-Chief
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Squarespace
Experience with Slack
Experience with Google Drive and Gmail
Experience with Trello
