VSW Services for Veterinary Interns

Group overview of VSW services for clients during orientation

Initial Individual meeting/assessment to get to know them, where are they from, and if they need guidance for finding a therapist, psychiatrist, PCP, etc…. and any medication issues (refills needed, etc). Apartment/furniture recommendations, food banks, etc……
Scheduled Check-ins individually every 2 months.  ProQOL (Professional Quality of Life) assessment,  PHQ-9, GAD-7, to administer that and track how that is over the year. This assesses Compassion Satisfaction, Burnout and Secondary traumatic stress, Depression and Anxiety symptoms.

Compile the data and discuss after match and be department specific. As in rotating interns and specialty interns by department.

Outside of Didactic rounds (teaching rounds) having a meeting with the group on specific topics such as client de-escalation, Compassion fatigue/Burnout, etc.. along with time after the presentation to discuss any difficult client cases (as in if they struggled with a difficult owner).

I would also like to get 3 mental health days in addition to the PTO and CEU bank that they could use for appointments or self-care. Currently they only have 6 PTO days and 3 CEU days for the year.
