SCHOOL-WIDE TK-12 VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
Hospitality - Plan and support VSSA events throughout the year, including New Students Welcome events, Back to School events including the annual Community Life Breakfast and various Employee Appreciation events throughout the year.  Also, help to connect with and welcome new and prospective families throughout the year.  The Hospitality Chair is a VSSA Executive Board role.
Spirit - The Spirit Chairs are responsible for championing and cheerleading all things Viewpoint School while energizing our community to do the same. Throughout the year, the Spirit Chairs plan, manage, and/or support student spirit events on campus and find creative ways to encourage attendance and participation at athletic, art, and school events. This role requires enthusiasm and a proactive approach to rally spirit in our community.  The Spirit Chair is a VSSA Executive Board role.
Viewpoint Fund

The Viewpoint Fund Co-Chairs play a pivotal leadership role in helping drive the success of the Viewpoint’s annual fund campaign, the School’s top fundraising priority that yields more than $3 million each year. Working in close partnership with the Advancement Office and fellow Co-Chairs, you will serve as a key ambassador for philanthropy during the School’s 65th Anniversary, encouraging broad participation and loyal giving among parents as we celebrate this historic milestone. This is an opportunity to work with one of the highest performing Advancement operations in Southern California and contribute directly to growing a vital source of revenue for our School. 65th Anniversary Benefit Auction

Be a part of the 65th Anniversary Benefit, the school’s single biggest fundraiser of the year by helping build an exciting auction! Held in May 2027, this signature event brings together our entire community to support a specific initiative that advances the school’s mission and enhances the student experience. 

The Benefit Auction Committee Chair(s) will partner directly with the Advancement Team’s Director of Donor Experience over the course of the school year to lead the strategy, development, and execution of a dynamic Auction that raises close to $300K each year. Together with a committee, the Chair(s) will solicit unique and exciting auction items from Viewpoint families and local businesses. 

This is an opportunity to work alongside one of the highest performing Advancement operations in Southern California and contribute directly to a major fundraising priority that impacts the daily lives of our students and faculty. 

Responsibilities:

Recruit, manage, and motivate a committee of volunteers to support procurement of auction items.

Attend and lead committee meetings in partnership with the Director of Donor Experience to provide updates, delegate tasks, and build momentum.

Serve as an ambassador for the Benefit within the parent and school community—actively promoting the event's mission and encouraging broad participation.

Actively leverage contacts and solicit auction items, leading the way and anchoring the auction with key donations. 

Assist with post-Online Auction fulfillment.

Partner with the Director of Donor Experience to identify and cultivate untapped corporate resources at Viewpoint and in the local community.

Homecoming Game - Support our annual Fall Football Classic by chairing this event or a subcommitte, or by volunteering for a shift or two at one of our many vendor booths, helping with pre-game decorating and games, or helping with set up/clean up.  This is a super fun school wide community event and TK-12 parent volunteers are needed!  October 23, 2026
Holiday Luncheon & Boutique - Plan and organize the event including lining up vendors, creating raffle baskets, and organizing volunteers to help with everything from checking in attendees to raffle ticket sales, etc. at the event. Event date: December 4, 2026
Teacher Appreciation - Organize and plan events during Teacher Appreciation week and throughout the school year to show our community's appreciation for Viewpoint teachers and staff.  TBD May 2027
Parent Clubs & Events - Build community by overseeing and supporting various parent-formed interest groups and parent-organized events such as knitting, museum goers, walking, writing, women in business, game nights, roller skating outings, etc.  Each club meets at least three times throughout the year and events are as scheduled.  Chairs help to support and promote the events and meet ups.  The Parent Clubs Chair is a VSSA Executive Board role.
Party Book

In this role, you will follow School guidelines for the structure of Party Book events and work with the Viewpoint parent community to manage the process from promoting, selling tickets, and coordinating with the host families.

Develop a comprehensive full year plan in October/November that builds community and creates connections among grades/divisions.

Recruit volunteers to host or plan Party Book events (8 per year total; 4 per semester).

Monies raised from events are in support of financial aid at Viewpoint.
Parent Education - Plan and organize a Parent Education Speaker Series - As a community invested in lifelong learning, we are looking for ambassadors to help plan and promote our speaker events, which aspire to create a wider dialogue on thought-provoking discussions that inform and enrich our relationships with our children, and help us boost parent engagement and attendance.  Our Parent Ed Chairs also liaise with School Speaker Alliance Los Angeles: https://ssalaspeakers.org/
Parent Partners - Viewpoint Parent Partners proactively engage families from all backgrounds by acknowledging and sharing the varied lived experiences that make up the beautiful fabric of our school. All Viewpoint parents/guardians are invited to participate. This position will work directly with the Office of Community Life to plan and implement various activities that support the School. Some of the activities include:

Monthly Parent/Guardian Mixers

Cultural Celebrations throughout the year

Opportunities to learn more about what’s happening at the school

Book Fair & Library Liaison - Collaborate with the Viewpoint School Librarians to organize library events, including family programs, the Viewpoint School book fair, and other activities designed to highlight and promote our libraries and library services to the Viewpoint community.
VSSA Leadership - Are you interested in taking on or learning more about a leadership role in the Viewpoint School Parents' Association (VSSA)? 

VSSA Executive Board roles include President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Technology Chair, Hospitality Chair, Spirit Chair, Parent Clubs Chair, Parent Partners Chair (PPDI), Division Reps for Primary and Lower School, and Grade Reps for Middle and Upper School.

Environmental Sustainability Council (ESC) Liaison - Support Viewpoint's student-run and faculty-advised Environmental Sustainability Council if and as requested by the students during the school year.
Technology - Liaise with the Senior Director of Marketing to update the parent volunteer pages on viewpoint.org. Work with the various committee chairs to update event info and graphics flyers for digital distribution. Support various technology- related needs.
Sunshine Committee - This committee is responsible for spreading light and love among the Viewpoint Community, particularly for those who may be experiencing darkness in their lives. With an eye on the well-being of our community, the committee will proactively reach out to families who are struggling with a loss, illness or hardship, with gifts or a kind ear. Whether it’s sending flowers or a note or making a phone call or visit, the committee will ensure these families feel taken care of all year long.
Secretary - Duties for this role include: Attend monthly VSSA meetings and all major VSSA events. Send monthly email VSSA Meeting reminders with attached Agendas. Assist Presidents with preparation of VSSA Meeting materials. Take notes at each VSSA Meeting. Provide a meeting sign in sheet including fields for name and email of attendees. Provide minutes for approval by the school liaison and VSSA Presidents. Send a thank you for attending email with upcoming events with attached approved meeting minutes. Send monthly emails with follow up items/links & approved VSSA Meeting Minutes. Assist with preparation of VSSA Rosters. This position is a VSSA Executive Board role.
Treasurer - Duties for this role include:  Attend all monthly VSSA meetings and all major VSSA events. Prepare budgets as needed.  Maintain each chair’s budget.  Maintain up to date financials.  Approve necessary invoices in a timely manner.  Provide any insights on the financial health of the VSSA budget. Provide status reports three times per year and as otherwise needed.  Liaise with Viewpoint business office throughout the year and for events like Homecoming, Holiday Boutique, etc. This position is a VSSA Executive Board role.
PRIMARY AND LOWER SCHOOL VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
Room Parents for PS/LS - As a Room Parent, you are the liaison between the school and your class!  Coordinate 2 playdates and 2 parent meet ups during the school year.  Coordinate a craft and snack for Holiday and End of Year parties. Distribute emails in a timely manner.  Attend and encourage parents to attend VSSA events.  Volunteer for at least 1 Employee Appreciation Breakfast.  
Sports Team Parent for LS (4th and 5th grade only) - Team Parents are primarily responsible for building community through essential email correspondence, serving as liaisons between Coaches and Parents, and promoting School spirit through the positive and thoughtful Team Parent Program Initiatives. Check the grade/division that applies to your child.
Hot Lunch Service Co-Chairs and Weekly Managers for PS/LS - Two committee co-chairs oversee all daily sign up forms, recruit and train weekly managers and daily servers. Co-chairs also may be required to fill in on short notice whenever necessary throughout the school year.  Weekly Managers help oversee the lunch service (run the register and manage condiments) one day, every other week, from approximately 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. throughout the year.
Hot Lunch Servers for PS/LS - Volunteers sign up for a few shifts each semester to help serve lunch.  Time slots vary by grade level throughout the year.  In the Fall and Spring, a link to the Hot Lunch Sign Up Genius form will be sent out to all PS and LS families and parents may sign up for specific shifts using that form.
Special Events for PS/LS - Plan and organize PS/LS events (such as a Family Field Day, Movie Night and Family Fun Festival). Two to four people head up the committee and work with the PS and LS Division Reps and additional volunteers at the events.
Holiday Greens - Participate in the long-standing tradition of assembling bows and evergreen sprays to be given out during the PS and LS Holiday Program in December 2026.  There is one date for tying decorative bows and one date for assembling the bows and greenery. (Exact dates: TBD October and December.)
Used Uniforms - Organize and maintain used uniform inventory and hold two major sales at PS/LS Class Visitation Evening and at MS Orientation.  Process donated used uniforms, keep room tidy and "shoppable", and manage charitable donations of unsellable items throughout the year. Time commitment is heaviest during final two weeks of August and ongoing monthly as necessary. Exact sale dates: TBD in August.
Lost and Found for PS and LS - Setup and breakdown of lost and found displays before each school scheduled break.  Coordinate charitable donations of unclaimed items after each display. Time commitment is ongoing throughout year before scheduled breaks.
MIDDLE AND UPPER SCHOOL VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
Senior Events - Senior Parents! Help us make your Viewpoint Class of 2027 Seniors’ final year the best one yet by volunteering your time and ideas for our activities throughout the year. Opportunities may include coordinating/assisting with online social events and/or our themed Senior Lunches. In addition, please let us know if you have a Junior and would like to consider helping for next year.
Middle School Dances and Socials - Help plan, organize, and provide support for grade-level dances and socials, in addition to assisting with decorations, gathering food donations, set up, and clean up. Event dates: TBD
Homecoming Dance - Plan, organize, and provide support for the Homecoming Dance.  Assist with decorations, arranging catering, set up, and clean up. Event date: TBD Fall 2026!
Upper School Winter Formal - Plan, organize, and provide support for Winter Formal.  Assist with decorations, arranging catering, set up, and clean up. Event date: TBD Winter 2027
Upper School Prom - Plan, organize, and provide support for Prom.  Assist with decorations, arranging catering, set up, and clean up. Event date: TBD Spring 2027
MS & US Drama Support - Volunteers provide support as needed for Middle or Upper School Drama Department  Productions in the Fall and Spring including supporting receptions, tech week meal service, senior student recognition, etc. Dates are TBD.
MS & US Music Support - Volunteers provide support as needed for Middle or Upper School Music Department  Productions including Band, Orchestra, and Chorus in the Fall and Spring including supporting receptions, rehearsals, senior student recognition, etc. Dates are TBD.
MS & US Sports Team Support - Team Parents are primarily responsible for building Community through essential email correspondence and serve as liaisons between Coaches and Parents, and promoting School spirit through the positive and thoughtful Team Parent Program Initiatives.
