Citizens
Campaign for the Environment has partnered with the Yale School of Public
Health (YSPH) and its Yale Superfund Research Center (YSRC) to better
understand the impacts of 1,4-dioxane exposure on Long Island communities. Emerging contaminant 1,4-dioxane has been found in drinking water across Long Island, with some of the highest levels of this chemical in the nation found in our wells. YSRC is planning a drinking water and human blood study of 1,4-dioxane in
Nassau and Suffolk Counties, focusing on a variety of areas across Long Island including
those with previous high levels of 1,4-dioxane in drinking water wells. It is
crucial to understand the exposure levels of 1,4-dioxane in Long Islander’s
bodies to better understand how to combat this hidden carcinogen and protect
public health.
Volunteers are needed
for the study. If you would like to receive more information about the study,
