Mountain Island Charter School (MICS) enrolls students in accordance with North Carolina General Statute. We do not discriminate against any student on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, gender, or disability. Except as otherwise provided by law or the mission of the school as set out in our charter, MICS does not limit admission to students on the basis of intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, athletic ability, race, creed, gender, national origin, religion, or ancestry. MICS does give enrollment priority to siblings of currently enrolled students who were admitted to the charter school in a previous year.
MICS enrolls an eligible student who submits a timely application, unless the number of applications exceeds the capacity of a program, class, grade level, or building. In this case, students are accepted at random by lottery. Once enrolled, students are not required to reapply in subsequent enrollment periods. Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, MICS may refuse admission to any student who has been expelled or suspended from a public school under North Carolina General Statute. Furthermore, MICS reserves the right to refuse admission to any student that has not met the academic requirements for the grade level they have applied to enter.
Mountain Island Charter School is a public school serving grades kindergarten through 12 and requires no application fee or tuition. All students, staff and parents are required to sign and abide by the MICS Achievement Goal and Compact. All MICS stakeholders are required to follow all of the school's policies and procedures.
