Ukrainian Ethnic Capital: Identity, Trust, and Cooperation -  G3

The case study “Ukrainian Ethnic Capital: Identity, Trust, and Cooperation” was developed and piloted by dr hab. Viktoriia V. Hurochkina Prof. UZ as an international educational product for the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies. Within the framework of the Сase Study, research is conducted on the level of ethnic capital transmission among migrants of different migratory generations. The study was initiated by the Foundation “Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora in Poland” (USD in Poland) as an instrument of scientific diplomacy under the patronage of the Centre for Ukrainian Studies at the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH).

Attention! This questionnaire is designed for the generational respondent group G3 - third generation of migrants.

Evaluation scale. Each question is assessed on a 0–4 point scale:  0 – absent / lost / not characteristic at all;   1 – occasionally preserved or only symbolically present / rather not characteristic; 2 – partially preserved / moderately characteristic; 3 – consistently preserved / rather characteristic; 4 – fully preserved and actively reproduced / fully characteristic.

У межах кейсу проводиться дослідження рівня трансмісії етнічного капіталу серед мігрантів різних міграційних поколінь. Дослідження ініційовано Фундацією «Українська наукова діаспора в Польщі» - УНД у Польщі - як інструмент наукової дипломатії під патронатом Центру українських студій при Варшавській школі економіки SGH / Centrum Studiów Ukraińskich w SGH Warsaw School of Economics.

Увага! Дана анкета для поколінної групи респондентів G3 - третє покоління мігрантів.

Шкала оцінювання. Кожне питання оцінюється за шкалою від 0 до 4 балів:

- 0 – відсутній / втрачений / зовсім нехарактерно;

- 1 – збережений епізодично або лише символічно / скоріше нехарактерно;

- 2 – частково збережений / помірно характерно;

- 3 – збережений постійно / скоріше характерно;

- 4 – повністю збережений та активно відтворений / повністю характерно.

Ethnic capital - 

а historically formed and socially reproduced complex through which cultural, symbolic, moral, network-based, and institutional resources rooted in belonging to the Ukrainian cultural and historical community are preserved and tempered.

Етнічний капітал - історично сформований та соціально відтворюваний комплекс, через який зберігаються та трансформуються культурні, символічні, моральні, мережеві та інституційні ресурси, що ґрунтуються на приналежності до української культурно-історичної спільноти.

2.  Social capital  (SC) 

encompasses networks of relationships, mutual trust, mutual aid, group solidarity, and access to resources through community membership. It manifests itself in family, community, professional, and volunteer relationships and is an important mechanism for collective action and support.

It promotes economic integration and the development of ethnic entrepreneurship.

4.       Educational capital (EdC)

characterizes the level of knowledge, educational achievements, professional skills, and learning traditions that exist within an ethnic community. An important role here is played by the intergenerational transmission of knowledge, as well as the promotion of education as a value that fosters social mobility.

6.        Symbolic capital  (SmC)

is linked to the social recognition, prestige, and visibility of an ethnic group. It is expressed through symbols, signs, reputation, cultural authority, and public presence, which shape the community’s social status both within and beyond its boundaries.

7.         Moral capital (MC)

encompasses shared ethical norms, notions of goodness, justice, dignity, mutual responsibility, and proper behavior. Moral capital forms the basis of trust, solidarity, and a willingness to cooperate, especially in times of crisis.
