Workshop A - for beginners and amateurs
Date: 24-25 March 2018 (Sat-Sun)
Time: 1400-1600 and 1700-1900 (for both days, total 4 sessions, each 2 hours)
Venue: Hong Kong 3 Arts Musical Institute

Fee: HKD2,000 (4 sessions)/ HKD600 (per session)

Session 1:  Discover Your Singing Voice: vocal technique basics
Session 2:  The Magic of Musical Theater: musical theater vocal techniques; belting; mixing; when to use soprano and chest voice
Session 3:  The Best Songs for You: finding repertoire through singing assorted songs
Session 4:  Auditions are Fun: choosing two songs for auditions, 1 up-tempo and 1 ballad
Workshop B - for advanced singers and professionals
Date: 31 March - 1 April 2018 (Sat-Sun)
Time: 1400-1600 and 1700-1900 (for both days, total 4 sessions, each 2 hours)
Venue: GP1, Hong Kong Cultural Centre
(10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong)
Fee: HKD2,000 (4 sessions)/ HKD600 (per session)

Session 1:  Singing Strength for Audition Confidence: vocal technique for all styles and periods of musicals theater songs
Session 2:  Variety is The Key: know and sing what shows you the best; 16, 32 bars cuts and full songs in different styles
Session 3:  Live the Part, Get the Role: current audition choices; acting a song
Session 4:  Be a Star!: commanding the room; live audition; feedback and discussion

Workshops are organised by Hong Kong 3 Arts Musical Institute as fringe activities for "Smokey Joe's Cafe" performed at Hong Kong City Hall Theatre from 20-22 April 2018. Performance details:
Deb Lyons
has starred on Broadway and in London’s West End in Smokey Joe’s Cafe (Olivier nomination for Best Musical). She also starred as Lucy in the 1st U.S. national tour of Jekyll & Hyde.  She has worked with Tony Award-winning directors, Jerry Mitchell, Jerry Zaks and Richard Maltby Jr.  She toured for 5 years as a member of the legendary pop group The Mamas & The Papas with original Papas, John Phillips and Denny Doherty performing the songs made famous by the late Mama Cass. Off-Broadway she appeared with Brill Building songwriters Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil in They Wrote That?. Regional credits include Next to Normal (Diana); The Last Goodbye (Lady Montague);  Hairspray (Velma); Ring of Fire (June Carter Cash) and Side by Side by Sondheim.  She recorded with acclaimed Japanese composer Yuki Kajiura on the album Fiction and Xenosaga II. Artists she has sung backup for include Carrie Underwood, Lee Ann Womack, Donna Summer, The Chieftains, Frankie Avalon and Lesley Gore.  Her debut CD of jazz and Broadway tunes is titled Dream a Little (available on CDBaby).
