Lesson 10 Epiphany
Epiphany is celebrated this year on Sunday, January 3, while this Monday, January 4, is the feast day of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Elizabeth was the first American Saint.  She opened a school and founded the Sisters of Charity. Elizabeth’s parents and stepmother taught her to read the bible and to learn from it.  She also learned to help those in need by watching her parents’ actions. It seems fitting that this Feast Day follows the Epiphany of the Lord (also known as 3 Kings Day).  Elizabeth and her family truly had their own Epiphany as they were seeking the truth, had great faith in our Lord and let Jesus into their hearts just like the 3 Kings in the Epiphany Story. Although Elizabeth, and her family, had a hard life, they still set out to do the right thing, as they learned from the Bible.  Please hit "SUBMIT" When you finish the Discussion Worksheet.  This is due on January 10th.

"The People in Darkness Have Seen a Great Light"
1. The prophet Isaiah was right when he said: “The people who sit in darkness have seen a great light”.  Who do you think the “Great Light” was that Isaiah spoke about?  What do you think His light shows us?
2. St. Elizabeth and her parents truly followed Jesus’ teachings and tried to live more like him.   I’ll bet they read what we hear in this week’s Gospel: …Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand."  That means think about the way we are living, be sorry for those things we have done wrong and think about how to live a good, kind life, loving and caring for God and for others. Do you have anyone in your life who is a light to you and shows you how should live your life?
3. Did you know that we share one of the sufferings of St. Elizabeth Anne Seton? When she and her sick husband arrived in Italy, they were quarantined for 30 days.  That means they had to live totally socially distanced from others.  Today, we know a little bit about being Socially Distanced too.  If there is someone in your life you think may need to feel more connected, how might you reach out to them, even though we are apart?
4. At this time, every new year, many people make “New Year’s Resolutions” to do things to improve their lives.  What is one thing you really might be able to do better this year, that will help you to follow the way Jesus taught us to live?  (Some ideas might be: to help your friends or family more; Pray More; Learn a new skill that will help your team to be stronger or that will help you to have more fun with your friends...)
