The athletes of Central City Value High School occupy a position of leadership and influence in the school and in the community. The Athletic Department has determined that all of our athletes must abide by the following rules and regulations:
1. A student/athlete must demonstrate every effort to excel academically, and maintain at least a 2.0 (C average) grade point average for athletic eligibility.
2. A student/athlete is deemed ineligible to practice or play for one week if he/she has an “F” in a class, as indicated by a teacher on the “Academic Tracker”.
3. A student/ athlete must adhere to the dismissal time for contests. A student/ athlete leaving class early for an athletic event must complete the “EARLY DISMISSAL FORM”, to receive makeup work, and submit the form to the coach before the event.
4. A student/athlete may not miss practice or an athletic contest unless ill or there is a family emergency. The coach must be informed of all absences. Unexcused absences or lack of prior communication with the coach may result in dismissal from the team.
5. A student/athlete arriving late to school on game day will not be permitted to travel with the team or play in the game. Exceptions will be made for dental or doctor appointments with note provided. The medical note must be presented to the front desk when the student athlete arrives at school.
6. School policies regarding drugs, drinking of alcoholic beverages or smoking will be strictly enforced. Expulsion from the team will result if these infractions occur.
7. Student/Athletes will serve as positive role models; exercising self-control, fair play, and good sportsmanship. Unsportsmanlike conduct, inappropriate behavior towards teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, or use of obscenities during a contest or practice will result in disciplinary action.
8. Any student/athlete who is removed from a team or quits a team (defined as failing to attend practices or games), may not tryout for any other team at Central City during that school year, and risks the opportunity to participate the following year. The student/athlete will also be required to meet with Principal Arroyo regarding the reason for not fulfilling his/her commitment to the Central City Community.
9. Every athlete must turn in all equipment and uniforms immediately at the conclusion of the season and are financially responsible for any equipment or uniforms damaged or lost.
10. A student/ athlete who has been suspended from school is not eligible to tryout, practice, or play during the time designated by the Dean of Students. Any student demonstrating behavior requiring disciplinary action will not be eligible to compete in the next scheduled game.
11. Student/athletes are not permitted to drive themselves or others to practices or games at any off campus training or competition site. Transportation via bus or van is provided by the school.
12. In order to practice and compete in an athletic contest, a student/athlete must be in attendance for a minimum of two class hours (excluding lunch and nutrition) on the day of the practice or contest. In cases of death in families, court orders, or other extreme emergencies, exceptions may be made by the principal
13. Student/athletes using derogatory terms and/or racial slurs towards teammates, opposing players, coaches, officials, or spectators will be suspended.
14. For safety reasons, student/athletes are not permitted to wear eye glasses during practices or games.
15. Student/Athlete(s) engaging in bullying (physical, verbal, social or cyber) may result in removal from a sport or prevent the student/athlete(s) from trying out for a sport. This is in effect throughout the calendar year, whether school is in session or not, and whether the sport(s) in which the student/athlete(s) competes is “in season” or not.
16. Students
are permitted 10 consecutive days of tryouts for a team. During those 10 days, a student may choose to
quit the tryouts. At the conclusion of
the 10 day tryout period, the final team roster is posted, and with their name
on the list, the student is considered a member of the team.
