General Information
We are so glad you are interested in the Adventures in Nature: Family Land Conservation Camp at Caddo Mounds State Historic Site. This camp is designed to provide families with experiences and opportunities that will lead to greater knowledge and skills in STEM areas and to be able to sustain fun activities into the future.
The grant specifies families as one parent and one child ages 8-11. There are circumstances in which other adult family and siblings can come, however, the target group for the grant is ages 8-11 and our activities will be designed for that age group.
Space is limited and families must apply to participate. Registered families are asked to attend all six days of the camp and participate in creating a final project. The camp will meet each day from 9 am - 3:30 pm.
During a six-day Creative STEM family experience, community partners and families will explore Caddo Mounds SHS and engage with five different ecosystems through a braided Creative STEM approach. In this braided approach, families will explore land conservation through the strands of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), the Arts, and Western-based Science. Each day will include fun hands-on activities with the guidance of educators, members of the Caddo community, western science professionals, and art professionals.
The project is part of an ongoing research study funded by the National Science Foundation under Grant #2115488. Families will provide feedback about their experience through surveys and virtual or phone interviews with the research team.
The grant specifies families as one parent and one child ages 8-11. There are circumstances in which other adult family and siblings can come, however, the target group for the grant is ages 8-11 and our activities will be designed for that age group.
There is no cost to families. All accepted families will receive a stipend for participating in the camps and the evaluation interviews with the research team, as well as gas stipends and snacks/lunch provided daily.
Applications are due two weeks before the first day of each camp session.
Families will receive notification of acceptance in the program and receive further information by email.
A pre-camp informational meeting will be held virtually - date TBA.
