Sweet Tea Shakespeare will hold auditions for its 2018- 2019 Season at the Capitol Encore Academy at 126 Hay Street in Fayetteville, NC on Saturday, June 16 from 2:00-4:30pm. Auditions are by appointment only. Enter TCEA off of Old Street at the back of the building.

Actors outside traveling distance may submit a video audition.
Sweet Tea Shakespeare pays modest stipends and travel allowances; full details are provided with offers. Productions involve cross-gender casting of roles and double-casting. The rehearsal process often begins with intensive text work; actors typically are requested to arrive at the first rehearsal with some text work complete (instruction is provided) and their lines memorized.

Sweet Tea Shakespeare offers housing for out-of-town actors and directors in the form of home stays. Guest artists can expect a private room in the home of dedicated friends or members of the company. We can seek homes that satisfy any personal needs, such as a pet-free home.

Prepare a Shakespeare monologue of 12-16 lines maximum.

If you sing, please prepare one of the following songs: Dear Wormwood (Oh Hellos) or Name (Derek Webb). You may be asked to sing acapella or with a guitar or piano. Recordings are freely available on YouTube or a music service. If you are interested in auditioning for Sweeney Todd, please prepare 16 bars of the Opening Ballad to be sung with or without accompaniment.

If you play an instrument from chord sheets, please bring it and play one of the same songs listed above; if you play an instrument that uses sheet music, please prepare the melody line from Behold (Andrew Peterson). We also invite you to show us your chops by inventing harmonic and melodic lines that could be played along with any of these songs.

There may also be selected cold readings from the plays, dance or movement work, and brief interview questions.

We are interested in meeting the most authentic version of yourself possible, and in seeing what you can do.
We are interested in your prior theatre experience.
We are interested in why you are interested in the work we do.
We want to know whether you can sing, play, read music, move, and dance.
We want to know if you have experience or certification in stage combat.

These are low-pressure auditions. Come as you are.

Do not bring extra headshots or resumes. Submit electronically only.
