Dr. Willie Boyd, Sr. Elementary School – Dr. Willie Boyd, Sr. began his career as a teacher at Mayo High School in 1968 shortly after his return from the Vietnam War. He became assistant principal there before taking over as principal of Rosenwald High School. In 1982, he returned to Mayo as principal. Over the next three decades, he served as the school district’s Transportation Director, Assistant to the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent for Administration, and Associate Superintendent. In 2017 the Board chose him to lead the school district as Acting Superintendent, the first African-American to do so. Dr. Boyd retired in 2018 after more than 50 years of service to the school district.
