Contract Requirements:Under the new specifications for GTRA Instructors introduced in AY 2025-2026, GTRAs who teach ENG 190 receive a tuition waiver for 9 credit hours each semester, fall and spring. They also earn an $10,000 stipend for the year (or $5,000 per semester), paid in monthly installments, Sept. 15 – June 15. Since GTRAs are full-time student positions, requiring 20 hours of work each week, students who receive them are not allowed to hold additional employment on campus. GTRA Instructor positions are renewable based on satisfactory job performance and availability of funding. Current GTRAs will need to re-apply in February for positions for the following academic year.
GTRA Instructors are required to maintain full-time enrollment for the duration of their contracts: 9 credit hours in the fall and 6 credit hours in the spring. They are also required to reside in the State of Missouri while under contract as GTRA Instructors
and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Students receiving graduate teaching assistantships will teach and be mentored on campus, in person.
New GTRA Instructors participate in pre-semester orientation and enroll in a practicum fall and spring of their first year. Therefore, all new GTRA Instructors start in the fall semester. Most returning GTRA Instructors also serve both fall and spring semesters, but exceptions may be made when it is in the mutual best interest of the program and the student. Typically these accommodations are made for GTRA Instructors simultaneously pursuing their MA and MAE degrees who need to complete a teaching internship for the MAE one semester of their second year of GTRA Instructor service.
