What is Student Support Services (SSS)?
Student Support Services is a federally funded, comprehensive academic support program for eligible, selected students enrolled in a degree program.
SSS is designed to increase college retention, graduation and transfer rates, and foster institutional climate supportive of the success of first generation, low-income college students and individuals with a documented disability.
Who is Eligible?
You are eligible if:
You meet the income eligibility criterion established by the United States Department of Education and/or
You are a first-generation college student (parents have not earned a 4-year, Bachelor’s degree)
You have a documented disability.
SSS Services:
Counseling
Your assigned counselor will assist you with any issues that interfere with your academic success.
Academic Advisement
Your counselor will help you develop an Academic Plan that will lead to graduation and assist you in reaching your career goals.
Cultural Activities
Cultural activities are offered to broaden your general knowledge base and expose you to various cultural opportunities.
Academic Monitoring
Your counselor will review your mid-term evaluations from each professor. Together you will celebrate success and plan interventions if needed.
Tutoring
The program offers individualized tutoring for developmental level English and math courses.
Transfer Initiative
Your counselor will assist you in researching the best transfer school for your intended major. Workshops are offered to assist in writing a winning essay and seeking financial assistance for enrollment in a four-year school.
Workshops/Seminars
Workshops and seminars are offered throughout the year on a variety of topics to enhance college success.
Career/Leadership Bootcamp
Series of experiential career and leadership workshops offered that are designed to promote post-college transition and leadership skills.
