Thank you for your interest in the PiPA Classical Music research. The aim of this study is to better understand the lived experience of classical musicians, composers, singers and conductors who also have parental and/or caring responsibilities.
We are looking for 5-6 individuals to participate in 1-to-1 interviews to delve deeper into their perceptions of a 'good and ideal performer,' how caring comes into this and some of the perceived barriers to providing support.
The interviews will be 60-80 minutes long, and will be conducted by Professor Almuth McDowall of Birkbeck, University of London. The interviews will take place on Zoom at a mutually convenient date and time.
Each participant will receive a £65 fee.
PiPA is particularly interested in hearing from:
Agents, Contractors or Fixers
CEO's or Musical Directors
Musicians/ Composers. Conductors/ Opera singers who have a protected characteristic/s
Single Parent creatives

Parenting responsibilities: Mother, father, adoptive parent, foster carer and/or legal guardian of a child under the age of 18
Care responsibilities: Anyone who is responsible, unpaid, for the care of a friend, family member or another person who, for a variety of reasons, is not currently able to cope without their support.
Please submit this form as soon as possible and we will be in touch. This form will close once the interview places have been filled.
All records will remain confidential and the form information will only be used to select participants and then deleted. No individual information will be published and your identity as a focus group applicant will remain anonymous.
We welcome interest from groups that are underrepresented in the performing arts, including people who are Black, Asian, Dual Heritage or from an Ethnically diverse background; D/deaf & Disabled people; people who are from lower socio-economic backgrounds; and/or people with caring responsibilities, or any other under-represented backgrounds in the performing arts sector. Diversity of experience, thought and voice adds immeasurable strength to our research so if we are oversubscribed we will use demographic information to ensure we speak to a sample representative of the breadth of the UK's population.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org
if you have any questions or concerns about your participation.
