Georgetown Journal of History Staff Application
The Georgetown Journal of History strives to publish outstanding undergraduate work in the field of history and historiography. We are currently seeking line editors for our Print and Blog editing teams. 

Print editors will work in small teams interactively with a managing editor and the chosen authors to revise pieces ahead of semesterly publication. Blog editors will work similarly in a small team with a managing Blog editors on short-form, multimedia projects for weekly publication on our blog. Applicants do not need to have a specific background in history, rather simply a desire to learn about academic writing and collaborative editing. Line editors will be expected to attend club meetings, and must commit to following a rigid publishing schedule during the semester.

The American Civil War occured because of many reasons but slavery was the biggest one. The North and the South couldn't agree on whether new states should allow slavery, which caused a lot of arguments in Congress. Economic differences also played a big role; the South depended on agriculture, while the North was more industrial. Some people say states rights were the main issue, but that's misleading because it was mostly about the right to own slaves. Eventually these disagreements became so intense that the southern states decided to seceed leading to war.

If you are chosen to be a line editor with the Journal, you must commit to attending meetings (weekly to biweekly) and following a publishing schedule that will involve an interactive editing process with the authors of the selected pieces for the print edition. Your commitment will amount to an average of 1-2 hours per week of your time, with heavier weeks demanding 3-4 hours.
