* All students are required to read at least one book from the following list over the summer. The book chosen should be one that the student has not previously read.
* Students will pick one project on the matrix to complete about the book. This is due the first day of school, but we encourage you to drop it off in your advisor’s room during classroom visitation on August 18th from 4:30-6:00pm
*On the first day of school, students will be expected to actively participate in a group discussion about the book he or she chose to read. Teachers from all content areas are also reading one of these books and will lead the book discussions.
The books on this list have been selected for a variety of reading levels, genres, and interests. Descriptions of the books can be found by hovering over the book below. As students mature as readers, the language and content of their reading may become an issue for some. If students or parents have concerns about a particular book, please feel free to select a different title. Summaries, editorial reviews, and other information can be accessed for these books at
amazon.com,
barnesandnoble.com, and for some books at
commonsensemedia.org. Questions regarding our summer reading requirements can be answered by our middle school librarian, Amanda Haas: 576-3908 or
ahaas@universityschools.com.
