Digitization Orientation Workshops

Digital Commonwealth will be hosting 3 workshops to prepare public libraries to contribute content to the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) through the Digital Commonwealth Service Hub as part of the Public Librarian Partnership Grant recently awarded to DPLA by the Gates Foundation. In these workshops, public librarians will learn how to work with Digital Commonwealth to select content for digitization and/or identify existing digital content, digitize new content and provide metadata and contextualization for that content, and determine potential themes for DPLA Exhibitions (http://dp.la/exhibitions).

The ideal candidates for these workshops will be public librarians who deal with local history, genealogy and similar unique content. If your library has staff devoted to digitization, staff members in this area would also be ideal participants. One staff member per library will be given priority. Multiple applicants will be accepted, but the ideal candidate for the training from a single institution should be clearly identified among the applicants. A small stipend will be available. Approval and commitment to the project by the Library Director (or equivalent) is required.
