We are excited to announce the opening of applications for a Pillars Activation Training of Trainers (TOT), scheduled for Tuesday, October 13 through Thursday, October 15 (7-9:30pm ET Tuesday and 7-9pm ET Wednesday and Thursday). In this TOT, participants will:
Develop an understanding of essential elements of activating people's courage to undermine authoritarianism and strengthen democracy,
Practice training, facilitation, and coaching components of this Pillars Activation training, with attention to contextualizing for specific audiences,
Join a cohort of trainers and facilitators working on cross-pillar collaboration, and
Gain access to Common Courage training resources and support for integrating content into your future organizing and training.
This TOT is for experienced trainers and facilitators who are interested in incorporating approaches to activate more deeply within and across pillars to encourage shifts away from supporting authoritarian systems and toward bolstering democracy. The content is based on a guide to pillars activation, as well as ongoing research Horizons has been supporting with the University of Texas-Dallas and Johns Hopkins SNF Agora Institute. We’ve had the opportunity to conduct initial workshops to make the content more practical for organizers and community leaders and have truly appreciated the feedback we’ve received.
Accepted TOT participants who commit to doing at least one Common Courage training for their community will receive a $500.00 stipend upon completion. This stipend is meant to cover your time to contextualize the curriculum for your training audience (including incorporating Common Courage elements into existing
trainings), and it can also be used to secure space, childcare, and training
materials for in-person trainings.
We are accepting applications through October 9, 2026.
