The Queer Asian Pacific Islander American Retreat aims to foster a safe and inclusive space for all individuals that identify as both Asian Pacific Islander and Queer. The goal of this student-initiated and student-run retreat is to engage and empower its participants while creating visibility and validation for an identity that is often marginalized, misappropriated, and ignored.
The theme for QAPIAR 2013 is Breaking the Taboo. In Asian and Pacific Islander culture and society, issues of identity are often not spoken or acknowledged. Whether it be in expression, discussion, or interaction we seek to Break this Taboo. Through solidarity and empowerment, QAPIAR strives to address the matrix of oppression the Queer API community undergoes.
We invite your creativity and ingenuity while exploring this topic, and ask to keep in mind the aims of the retreat. By all means do not let this serve as a limitation, but only as a guideline. We will consider any workshops that keep the aims of empowerment, visibility and validation at the forefront of the participant's experience.
THE DEADLINE IS: Sept 15th, 11:59 PM.
Please keep workshops within a 60 minute time-frame.
If you have any questions please contact us at
qapiar2013@gmail.com As a facilitator your participant fees are waived (participant fees only apply to UCD students). The only compensation that needs to be taken into consideration will be reimbursing your driver for gas.
With Much Love,
Your QAPIAR Coordinators:
Casey Nguyen, Sensze Yang, & Mike Bolos
