Heart of the School Fund Application
Our intention with the Heart of the School Fund is to provide resources for projects that Baltimore City Public Schools' principals identify as pressing for their communities. As such, we fund a wide range of projects, including (but not exclusively): after-school programs, technology, professional development, school beautification projects, and field trips. Each school in the district is eligible for up to $7,500 over any given two year period.

Suggestions for Applicants:

  • Please be as specific as possible when describing your project. Be sure to let us know how many students/teachers will be served, which students/teachers will be served, and how the project will be implemented.
  • Please note the character limits for the questions. While you are not required to use all available characters, answers that are far short often fail to include important information.
  • Be clear about what the funding will be used for.
  • Include calculations in your budget.
  • Our selection committee is composed of Fund for Educational Excellence staff and volunteers from the community - most of whom are not education professionals. We'd encourage you to explain the importance of your particular project and how its implementation will benefit your school community, providing explanations for common jargon/specialized language for the field of education.

If you are awarded this grant, we’d like your input on the best way to disperse the funds.  We can send your school/operator (for charter schools) a check, at which point you would be responsible for managing spending on the project. Alternatively, we can keep the dollars here at the Fund for Educational Excellence and work with you to manage the grant dollars on your behalf.  Please let us know which you would prefer.

If we are unable to grant you the full amount requested, how would you modify your project? *
How did you solicit input on this plan from the intended beneficiaries (staff, students, families, etc.)? What feedback did they provide? *
A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
