Registration for the Boston Region Defend Higher Ed Teach-In/Call Out, October 29, 3:30 - 4:30pm
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Boston-area students, faculty, and staff have made heroic efforts to sustain higher education and keep our campuses safe and serve our students. Public higher ed executives, in turn, have responded by cutting funding to colleges and universities across the state, resulting in layoffs, furloughs, and program cuts. Class sizes and workloads have grown, student success has been threatened, and local economies are feeling the impact as racial and economic inequalities deepen.
We must let our elected officials know what is happening to our colleges, universities, and communities as they deliberate the state budget and show them the importance and value of continuing to level fund public higher ed this year.
Please join the MTA and Boston-area supporters of higher education for a teach-in and mass phone call to the state legislature on October 29th at 3:30. You can join us either on zoom or (physically) at the State House in order to send a message to policymakers that higher ed must be level-funded through the fiscal year.
