UNION: Crown Heights Community Screening
The Crown Heights Care Collective and Crown Heights Community News invite you to a community screening of the award-winning documentary UNION!

Directed by Brett Story and Stephen Maing, the film depicts the efforts of the Amazon Labor Union to collectivize workers at the JFK8 Amazon fulfillment center in Staten Island. The film follows the workers at the warehouse from early 2021, when the ALU was established, to 2022, when they became the first Amazon worker union to be recognized by the National Labor Relations Board. More than a portrait of a single fight, the film is a complex, moving, and up-close account of what it takes to successfully organize labor in an America fractured along race, class, and gender lines, where corporate behemoths like Amazon rule the roost with limitless resources and odds are stacked against worker power. The ALU's struggle still continues: Amazon still refuses to come to the bargaining table to negotiate a contract with the ALU, which prompted workers to go on a landmark strike in December 2024.

The screening will take place at Five Myles Gallery (558 St. John's Pl) in Crown Heights at 6:30pm on Friday, March 7, and will be followed by a group discussion with the film's directors, editor Malika Zouhali-Worrall, and producer Mars Verrone about the making of the movie, the status of the ALU's fight today, and its implications for labor organizing across the city.

Space is limited, so please RSVP below if you're sure you can attend. Donations are appreciated to help provide some food and drink at the screening, and support Five Myles! Suggested donation is $10, but please send whatever you can to @Cheryl-Rivera on Venmo.
